Drip Drip Drip Little April Shower
Drip, Drip, Drip, Little April Shower
(More Like May But Oh Well)
I follow a lot of Disney lovers on Instagram and Facebook and besides the fact that they are always making me want to visit right now and possibly never come home I also get to be informed about the weather at Disneyland right now! Apparently this week Anaheim is in for some rain. (More Like May But Oh Well)
I remember the very first time I ever went to Disneyland I was in Kindergarten and I was so excited to be in the happiest place on earth, maybe someday I'll rehash all of those memories for you guys, but for right now let's focus on the rain. Which it did do! We were all novices when it came to going to Disneyland so I remember tromping from ride to ride trying to figure out which ones were still open and which ones were closed thanks to the rain. We learned and sometimes you still have to learn.
What to Wear:
I remember back when I worked for Disney I would see guests walking around in ponchos especially as they were getting ready to go on the "Wet rides". "Tourists." I would scoff and I swore that I would never be found in one of those. Flash forward a couple of years and my family happened to be in Disneyland when the weather forecast was overcast as well as rainy for most of the week. Suddenly those ponchos didn't look so stupid anymore.
Cool thing about ponchos that you can buy at/ or around Disney?
They come in Disney! This means that they can easily double as a souvenir. A little word of advice though? Don't buy them in the park! There are certain things that you want to buy in Disneyland, but there are certain things that you can buy outside the park and save your money for other things. That time that I went with my family and it was raining all day we got our ponchos at a Walgreens not far from our hotel and it still had Mickey and Minnie on it.
Now besides the poncho the things that I would recommend wearing on a rainy day are good sturdy tennis shoes (honestly I would recommend wearing those any day that you are in the park), jeans (but maybe not new jeans), and a sweater. Also anything water proof that you can find!
Disney has slightly evolved since those days that I was in Kindergarten when it felt like they had closed down all of the rides. Honestly back then I just remember that I wanted to go on the Tea Cups and I had convinced my whole family to go on them and we walked all the way through the rain to go on them and they were closed. Pretty sure since then I've only been on the Tea Cups once.
Completely honestly though, more rides are open than you would think. Actually looking at the list it's all of those rides that my family classifies as the "kiddie rides" that are closed down due to the rain and we don't go on those.
- Alice in Wonderland
- Madhatter's Teacups
- Storybookland Canals Boats
And things like that. So to be safe stick to the Mountains!
Can we all just take a minute to agree that nobody and I mean NOBODY does entertainment like Disney?! Okay good! Now if you love all of the live shows and the fireworks and the parades then going to Disney during the rain might be a little let down for you. Let's go back to that story from when I was in Kindergarten. We couldn't go on the Teacups and honestly the only reason why I had been able to talk my family into going on them in the first place was because we were pretty sure that the parade was cancelled. By the time we got back to Main Street all that we saw was the one float with all of the characters on it. That's what they did for the parade. It was actually pretty neat
And that's what they do for the parade. They will still have one and it will still be magical, but it will be a lot shorter and the Characters will try their best not to get wet!
I'm pretty sure that they don't run Fantasmic during the rain but because World of Color (my favorite night show besides the Fireworks) is completely water anyways it does run during rain.
Sadly though even if you have waited all night long and hoped and prayed that the rain would stop and it doesn't stop there will be no fireworks during the rain.
I love that I have these personal experiences that I can share with you guys and let me tell you as long as I'm alive I will keep having personal experiences in regards to Disneyland. That time a couple of years ago when we were at Disneyland while it was raining and it looked like there was a river down Main Street they did come over the speakers and informed us that if it kept raining the park would have to close early. Thing is it didn't!
Disney in general is very much known for trying their hardest to never close their parks not for a whole day and not early. There has only been a couple of unscheduled full day closures in history and with most of the rides being able to run in the rain they don't have to worry too much about that.
Something to Think About:
Yes walking around in the rain is annoying especially after your shoes and socks get wet, but that's what all of the other guests are thinking too! This means that a lot of them will be leaving the park early which means less wait times. Also if you're already soaking wet it just gives you more reason to go on Splash Mountain (my favorite ride) again and again and again.
I hope this helps and as always Have a Magical Day!!!
